Siluria, now South-East Wales, takes its name from its oldest-known inhabitants, the Silures. It includes Gwent, the Valleys, the Vale of Glamorgan and Gower; areas with ancient standing stones, burial chambers, cairns and stone circles. Over the last twenty years Dewi Bowen has visited all but one of the sites included in this book; he describes them with enthusiasm and in a clear and direct manner, illustrating them with his own drawings. He also gives brief directions on how to find the sites, and refers to local legends and traditions. His book should appeal not only to archaeologists, but to all who enjoy walking in this somewhat neglected part of Wales.
