The book by William Copeland Borlase is reprinted here in facsimile. It is a nineteenth-century classic on the archaeology of Cornwall, including cromlechs or dolmens, cone-shaped barrows, bowl barrows, bell barrows, flat barrows and ring barrows, and an account of the pottery and weaponry found in the ancient tombs. The drawing on the front cover is of Lanyon Cromlech prior to its fall in 1815; it was of sufficient height to permit a man mounted on horseback to sit beneath it.
