Rabi'a of Basra was a unique personality among the early Sufis, one who was a true mystic. She died in A.D. 801. She is probably the greatest of the women saints of Islam. Margaret Smith's description of her Life and Teachings is accompanied by an account of the place of women saints in Islam. This Llanerch paperback is a facsimile of the 1984 Cambridge University Press reprint, with a new introduction by Annemarie Schimmel.
