Thomas Jeffrey Llewelyn Prichard (1790-1862) may be described as the author of the first Welsh novel, The Adventures and Vagaries of Twm Shon Catti, the first edition of which appeared in 1828. Revised and enlarged editions came out in 1839 and 1873. The present facsimile is of a revised and enlarged edition published by W. Nicholson and Sons, with neither date nor mention of the author's name on the title page. The adventures of Twm Shon Catti are said to have been based on incidents in the life of Thomas Jones of Tregaron (c. 1530-1609).
