The Chronicle of Perth is a wide-ranging manuscript, penned by several hands between c.1590 and c.1668. Its chief feature is a register of local and national events, and the authors deliberately evoke Perth's prominent status in medieval Scotland. The manuscript reveals useful details about urban life in an early modem Scottish burgh, and focuses upon the 'Gowrie Conspiracy’ of 1600, the period of the Covenanting wars, and Perth's long history of floods.
The illustration on the cover is from a tracing of the watermark which appears on the pages of the manuscript.
